There are lots of folks who like to their standard universities. They like to have interaction with folk, and they have the free time to do so. However, what about the remainder of us that have jobs and can not afford to miss work to go to a conventional college? What about the remainder of us that have families that need us at home and need us to be their for them?

Well, this is where distance education comes into play. In reality, one of the speediest growing types of distance education that folk are following is for a Doctorate degree. Today we’re going to cover why that it. You will see that there is a ton more to distance education than meets the eye. In the end, you may find this is the best choice for you.

One of the finest reasons to get a distance learning doctorate is because you can get it in less time than what it might take you at a traditional college. The general public that use online colleges end up finishing their degrees a lot sooner than people at normal colleges.

When taking an online college course, you can finish up getting your online PHD degrees in less than eight years, which will get you going in the career field of your choice.

If you have a good job, but you want to move ahead, then you’ve got to get a degree.

However, your job may offer you very little time to get out so you can go to class, suggesting that you’ve got to somehow get your work hours to flex around your college hours, which typically does not work.

However, when you are doing an online PHD degree, then you do not have to get any hours to bend around anything. No matter what time of day you work (or night for that matter), you can come home and do your studying whenever you have a free moment.

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to get involved with post graduate distance education courses. Whether you are a person that is just trying to get done with school quicker, or you are a person that is just making an attempt to make time to go to school, distance education is perfect for you.

Let your college hours flex to your desires by taking your college classes on the web. In the final analysis, you’ll see that a Doctorate distance education is just what you have been looking for.

Many people believe they are stuck in a dead-end job, unable to advance due to a lack of a formal education. Working over 40 hours a week and the financial responsibilities of raising a family hinders their ability to attend college. Many are finding a distance learning business degree can help them achieve better success.

There are many programs that offer a distance learning business degree that offer financial aid to those who qualify. A reputable online college, accredited by the regional accrediting agencies covering the state in which it is located, usually has the same resources as a traditional institution of higher education.

Programs are designed to help those non-traditional students, as well as those who cannot find the time to attend classroom studies. Most offer the same classes as a traditional school and offer interaction with online teachers while pursuing a distance learning degree. The major advantages include working at your own pace, maintaining your current employment, and still having time for your family while working towards a distance learning degree.

Classroom Tools Part Of Tuition Cost

Taking classes for a distance learning business degree often requires the use of classroom tools. Most accredited schools will offer these tools as part of your classes and the cost is included in the tuition. Others may have you purchase them locally, but either way you will need them to complete your distance learning degree.

Some people also have a desire to operate their own business and there are many business-related skills they may lack. Certain skills may also be necessary to obtain backing for the new venture that can be obtained by earning a distance learning degree. Many investors are shy about investing in a business being operated by a person without the necessary skills. Although they may be exceptional at what they do, without the business acumen to take care of the business end, many are reluctant to invest.

Additionally, by earning a distance learning degree the owner/operator of a business may find additional ways to help their business grow in ways in which they were previously unfamiliar.

Persons attending distance learning business degree programs must have the personal drive and self-discipline to succeed. You are the only one responsible for your success in completing the classes as there will be no one looking over your shoulder to insure you complete assignments honestly.

There are many more places to find information on this topic, including:

1) The Internet – A favorite search engine can be helpful

2) A Bookstore – Don’t forget books

3) The Local Library – Another place to find books

4) Ask Friends – Never underestimate the knowledge of someone you know

With lifestyles becoming busier every day and time always increasing in value, online learning has gained significant popularity in the last decade. More and more colleges and higher learning centers are offering traditional courses through online learning environments. Students are moving from requesting classroom alternatives to demanding them. In response, the majority of colleges are scurrying to add more and more of these courses to their catalogs. Another group of schools is fighting the shift towards online learning. One of the main reasons for the opposition is the debate over whether e Learning is equivalent to classroom learning.

The stereotype is that classroom learning, primarily because it is the predominant and traditional form of learning is superior. Before we attempt to address this stereotype, one must step back and think about why schooling is important. Is a college education really about learning Calculus, Sociology, Art and Chemistry? Some would say yes. But most would agree that the learning process outweighs the importance of the subject knowledge. College graduates commonly enter a field not directly related to their schooling. Degrees are a symbol of the effort exerted and not immediately a profession for the graduate. There are the exceptions of course; Engineering, Accounting and Nursing Degrees are all examples of education that can earn you a profession. Other areas of study such as English, History, and Political Science are examples that will not get you a career. A degree is significant because it shows a commitment to studying, learning and completing a program. The discipline showed in the journey is what is important because it shows work ethic.

There is a difference between being able to learn online instead of in a classroom. College students admit to passing courses without completing the “required” readings. The percent of the textbook actually read is less than fifty percent in most cases. Of that fifty percent, most reading occurs the weekend before an exam. Classroom students on the other hand are able to get along this way because professors spend class periods summarizing the “required” readings. A student who shows up and takes good notes can refer back to what the teacher said prior to the exam. Online courses on the other hand require actual reading. An online environment does not give the student a lecture summarizing the readings. In terms of test taking an online student can only rely on his or her own notes. The lack of a lecture requires the student to learn independently. A trait highly valued in the real world.

Another main difference is the degree of discipline required to complete an online course compared to a classroom course. Often times in a classroom environment attendance is measured either through roll call or by the submission of assignments. Professors also have in class lectures to students about the importance of coming to class. An online student does not have this reminder. The online student must themselves stay on track, study and complete assignments. This reinforces independence. Being able to manage yourself is key to successfully completing online courses.

There is no doubt that classroom learning also has significant benefits. The interaction and discussion piece of a classroom environment is crucial to the learning process, however the degree to which classroom learning is seen as superior is overstated. E learning is challenging and requires much more independence and discipline. As more and more students have the online learning experience, it will quickly become evident that these students are learning skills and traits that are just as critical as what is learned in a classroom environment. Online learning is not as commonly thought, an easy way to obtain a degree.

In 2004, nearly 52% of all students working toward a certificate or Associate’s degree were enrolled in online courses. That number has steadily increased each year due to more colleges offering Associate’s programs online. If you’re interested in earning an Associate’s degree through distance learning, here are some things to consider.

Most people in the United States understand that an Associate degree is a two-year program that consists of two different degrees: Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.). These degrees can be obtained by working through a community college, technical college, junior college, or online.

A.A. degrees rely heavily upon general education courses and are designed for those students that would like to transfer to a four-year college or university. They are often liberal arts degrees. A.A.S. degrees are designed for those who will work in middle level technology positions where further education is not needed. Some of the credits for an A.A.S. may transfer to a four-year college.

These types of degrees are best suited for those students who are unsure of the educational path they want to follow. The costs of these degrees are often much less, helping a student save money over the course of their education by allowing them to live at home instead of on a campus. Also, if you choose to get an Associate’s degree, you can also do so from the privacy of your home by attending online courses.

One benefit of choosing to earn an Associate’s degree online is that you may have a greater number of classes or majors to choose from. You may also be able to attend classes or programs from colleges that are far from your home.

Before choosing an online degree program, take time to do some research concerning the school in which you’re interested. Make sure your school of choice is accredited. Not only will accreditation give you all of the benefits of traditional students, but it will also ensure that all credits you earn will transfer if you choose to further your education.

What requirements will you need to meet? Generally students working toward an Associate’s degree will have to complete at least 60 hours of course work. This course work will include general education classes, those that would be considered prerequisites for higher education classes, as well as classes working toward a particular “major” or concentrated course of study.

Why would anyone want to get an Associate’s degree? According to reports from 2001, those with at least an Associate’s degree earned more pay per week than those who held no degree at all. Unemployment is also lower for those holding degrees. These two reasons, in themselves, may be enough of an impetus to encourage anyone to work toward higher education.

If you’re considering a career in teaching, but you’re not completely sure, working toward an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education may be just what you need to help you decide. There are many degree possibilities to choose from so research the ones you’re most interested in. This research should include talking to others that have obtained the same degree.

An Associate’s degree can be a jumping off point to furthering your education in the future. You can take the classes at your own pace, at any location that has high-speed internet access, and be working toward your future educational goals.

Search for “accredited online Associate’s degrees” on any search engine and you’ll have plenty of places to begin.

With a healthy employment outlook for the next 10 years, it is no wonder that distance learning civil engineering is offered by numerous Universities, Polytechnic Institutes, and Colleges, across the country. Civil Engineering is the oldest form of engineering. And Civil Engineering has never ceased to be the largest engineering endeaver as well. Even to this day, with 237,000 civil engineers on duty, it is America’s largest engineering branch that accounts for 16.4% of all engineering jobs in the country.

What it Involves

Distance learning civil engineering involves taking either a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or a Master of Science (M.S.), in Civil Engineering through the online or distance mode. M.S. in specializations like Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Hydraulic Engineering, are also available through distance learning civil engineering.

Though 2-year Associate Degrees are also available, it is only as a bridge to a B.S. Degree, since a Bachelor’s is the minimum entry-level requirement for the industry. However, an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology is acceptable for the career of Civil Engineering Technician.

In the USA, Professional Engineer (PE) license from State Licensing Boards is needed by Civil Engineers if they want to play a role in infrastructure work affecting the public, and the training for the two PE exams, ‘Fundamentals of Engineering’ and ‘Principles and Practice’, are also available through distance learning civil engineering.

Compared with the B.S. degree, there is both more demand as well as options for the M.S. Degree through distance learning civil engineering. The main reason for this is the industry’s increasing demand for specialized civil engineers like Structural or Environmental Engineers. It is also driven by a recent recommendation of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to the US State Licensing Boards that the minimum educational qualification for Professional Engineer (PE) license be upgraded from the current Bachelor’s to a Masters level.

Why Civil Engineering?

Unlike many engineering branches, the demand for Civil Engineering has a direct relation with population growth. In fact, this is why Civil Engineering continues to be the largest engineering branch in terms of employment, compared with equally conventional branches like Mechanical Engineering or modern branches like Computer Science, which is mainly due to this direct relation with population growth. More people mean more apartments, and more people also eventually lead to a larger employee pool – thereby increasing both residential and commercial construction.

The demand for Civil Engineering also has a direct correlation with economic growth. This is because, periods of economic slowdown will leave no funds for infrastructure development, while periods of economic growth will provide surplus funds that will be gobbled up in no time by the pending infrastructure needs. In the coming years and decades, economic slowdowns will be better predicted, if not avoided, thanks to the better interventional strategies by institutions like the Federal Reserve. This will leave funds ever available for infrastructure development, and will generate steady demand for Civil Engineers in the coming years.

Most Civil Engineering projects like roads, bridges, tunnels, dams, railway lines, airports, seaports, water supplies, sewage systems, buildings, etc. are also heavy on maintenance and repair, and such regular work contributes to the great demand for Civil Engineers. The need for high-speed, highly-safe mass transportation systems like underground or undersea railways is another major driver for the advancement of Civil Engineering.

Civil Engineering of today is also a professionally satisfying career, with good salaries and technologically updated work. Though average salaries of Civil Engineers are not very high, many of them draw as much as US $95,000 and none of them draw below US $43,500. They also get to work in high-tech areas like earthquake-resistant designs, and make heavy use of tools like Computer Aided Design / Engineering (CAD/CAE).

Why Distance Learning Civil Engineering?

Almost all online or distance courses in any branch of engineering would require work in the industry to meet coursework requirements, as coursework in on-campus labs is not possible. Civil Engineering has the greatest advantage on this front as civil work is abundant everywhere, and this is the main reason why so many Universities and Colleges offer distance learning civil engineering.

It is the best option for technicians, surveyors, and other junior technical staff working in the industry, who want to upgrade themselves to the status of an engineer. Indeed, the majority of those going for a B.S. degree through distance learning civil engineering, are already working in the industry. Practicing Civil Engineers already having a Bachelor’s Degree, also find this the best option, as there is professional pressure on them to specialize further in the field, without upsetting their regular work.

When a Civil Engineer grows from an employee to a Consultant, the Professional Engineer (PE) license will become increasingly important. It is widely expected that soon an M.S. in Civil Engineering would become the minimum educational qualification needed for this, and distance learning civil engineering is the best option for this.

What to Expect From Distance Learning Civil Engineering, in the Future?

As of today, the number of M.S. Degrees in General Civil Engineering is much more than M.S. in the Civil Engineering specializations like Structural, Construction, Environmental, Geotechnical, Transportation, or Hydraulic. However, this scenario will rapidly change, reflecting the increased demand for specialized Civil Engineers. The result will be that Distance Learning Civil Engineering will be offered by more institutions, and that it will be offered with more majors and specializations.

Are you someone with a full time job that would like to continue your education but think you don’t have the time, money, or resources? If so have you ever considered distance learning?

Distance learning (also known as online education or eLearning) allows anyone to earn a degree online through the internet. Classes are given online as well as tests, and all of your studying can be done at your convenience from your home (or anywhere you prefer if you have a laptop or mobile internet.)

What are the benefits of distance learning?

You might be asking yourself why anyone would choose to get their education online when they could attend classes on campus in a traditional University environment.

Some key benefits of obtaining your degree online that you may wish to consider are:

Flexibility – You can arrange classes around your schedule and choose when you want to study. This is particularly helpful to those with kids and/or hectic work schedules.

Affordability – You can save money on gas and parking by avoiding having to commute to and from classes. Additionally you may spend less money on books, as much or all of your course material will be made available online. You may also save money on other fees normally associated with college.

Availability – Through distance learning you are not limited by your physical location and you can find the school of your choice to attend anywhere in the world. Normally attending an out of state University would require re-location (not to mention higher out-of-state tution).

How to evaluate distance learning colleges and universities

Here are 5 simple steps for evaluating a good school for distance learning:

1.) Contact the schools you’re interested in directly to request more information or speak with a counselor or recruiter. Many people overlook this simple step but the school is really the best source of information about itself.

2.) Make sure that the college or university is accredited. This can’t be stressed enough. If you obtain your degree from a non-accredited institution future potential employers may not find your degree worth the paper it’s printed on.

3.) Talk to current and former students to get their direct feedback. Ask them about what their experience with the school was like and if they had any regrets. You should also visit UniversityDistanceLearning.com to read the real life stories from distance learning graduates.

4.) Search for the name of the school you are considering in a search engine like Google, and browse through at least the first 10 pages of results, keeping an eye out for any negative publicity.

5.) You can also search for the name of the school on RipOffReport.com and ComplaintsBoard.com. One or even a few complaints may be normal. It’s impossible to satisfy everyone. However if you find dozens of complaints that may be a warning indicator that you need to be careful.

In our fast-paced society, and With the many benefits of distance learning it is really a great option for many working adults. Just remember to take care in evaluating online schools as some are better and more qualified than others. Whatever your decision, always be sure its as informed as possible. Good Luck!

Why traditional colleges are more expensive than distance learning colleges, I would not have given up the chance at this freedom for a million dollars. An end run around a college that doesn’t offer your preferred major would be to create an independent study course in that field or to use a distance-learning college to flesh out the core classes you’re taking on campus. Distance learning colleges eliminate the time aspect of education as much as it can be eliminated.

A study done by the Penn State University Outreach Marketing and Communications with University Continuing Education found that nearly half of distance learning college enrolments are adult students that prefer the flexibility of online classes. It is strongly recommended that English college learning be advanced further through ESL (English as a Second Language) courses, which are now available online. This means attending regular classes like what is needed in traditional college learning will be your road block to stop you from go ahead with your degree earning.

These e learning courses have become very popular among non-traditional students who are able to earn an associate or bachelor degree from distance learning colleges, as well as traditional students who are enrolled in a standard university. You can accelerate the college learning process tremendously by working all by yourself. For those students who wish to pursue a degree in higher education, today’s distance learning college allows them to reach that goal and still remain committed to their lifestyle.

By enrolling in a distance learning college/ Depending on what your current studies are like a distance learning university might be the best solution. Students may use library service, journals and magazines, self study facilities, study packs, videos, audio tapes, CD ROMs and student computer networks with free internet access are now available at each college learning Center. Currently, its academic enrolment numbers more than 200,000 students located all over the world, making it the largest private, accredited university of the distance learning colleges.

It is also important that you physically visit the institute and interact with the staff to gain detailed information on their teaching methodologies, the type of study material provided and personal guidance, if any, provided by the distance learning college. These three colleges are, for my money, the top distance learning colleges in the country. I started in College learning about the tax codes, and there are so many ways to save taxes legally, you would never believe it.

No matter what your gender or age enrolling in a distance learning college is sure to bring more joy and good to your life. Understand that there is a major difference between online and on-site college learning. The standard distance learning colleges offer online engineering courses, but so do some of the best engineering colleges and universities in the country.

Many students prefer the freedom that e learning courses provide, and there are numerous distance learning colleges that have sprung up to meet this demand.

Whether designing cars or buildings, or learning to route traffic, an engineering degree will be necessary and distance learning in engineering is fast becoming acceptable among licensing agencies.

It not only takes years of study at a traditional college to earn a degree in engineering, but in order to function as an engineer, it takes a license, usually proctored by the state in which you live. A distance learning engineering degree may not be accepted as part of the requirements to take the exams, especially if it’s not from an accredited university.

In the construction industry, for example, plans and drawings can be completed by just about anyone. However, before they begin to take shape, they have to be examined and approved by a licensed engineer. A person working as a draftsman or surveyor can take distance learning in engineering classes while working towards their engineering degree.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, a big advertising gimmick was correspondence schools touting the earn-as-you-learn plan. You could keep your present job while learning new skills, which could offer better employment opportunities. Today’s distance learning for engineering follows the same principal but learning can be faster because it’s computerized through online courses.

Online Interaction Offers Better Communications

During the correspondence course days, if you had a question for your instructor, you usually had to submit it by mail and wait for a response. Online courses speed this process considerably as when you enroll in a distance learning for engineering programs, instructors are able to communicate by email, making the process much faster.

Some course also have the capabilities in their distance learning in engineering programs for classes or lectures to be held through online conferences, which can be recorded and played back at a time when you’re not working or committed elsewhere, such as a family event. Most of these conferences work as a two-way classroom, allowing you to ask questions and receive answers instantly. They also allow a degree of interaction of other attendees.

However, as in all online educational courses, distance learning in engineering must be achieved through an accredited agency or it may not be recognized as a legitimate diploma. If a school is legitimate, and not a diploma mill, it accreditation will be through one of the six accrediting associations covering the state in which the school is located. Without that accreditation, the degree you receive will simply be a receipt for the money you paid.

Distance learning engineering is nowadays offered by more and more universities, colleges, and polytechnic institutes, thanks to breakthroughs in course delivery like the internet, virtual labs, instructional design, and interactive content.

What it Involves

Distance learning engineering mainly involves taking either a BS or BE in any of the engineering branches; a BS in Engineering Technology; an MS or ME in any engineering branch or its specialization; or a PhD in a specialization of an engineering branch; through the online or distance mode.

While accredited MS and ME degrees are available for most engineering branches and their specializations, from many universities, accredited BS and BE degrees through distance learning engineering are offered only by a lesser number of institutions. Also, distance learning engineering for undergraduate degrees offers only fewer engineering branches as majors. It is more common to find among bachelor degrees branches like computer science/engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, and quality control/assurance. In many other branches, aspirants will have to opt for a hybrid program with some element of on-campus study during evenings or holidays. However, many universities offer BS degree completion programs in many branches, through distance learning engineering, which means that you need to have prior experience and credits from some other undergraduate engineering program.

However, BS degrees in engineering technology through distance learning engineering are widely available.

Why Engineering?

Engineering is one of the most attractive professions due to the huge demand in the job market, high starting salaries, enormous scope for specialization, and the requirement of only a bachelor’s degree to scale even the heights of this profession. With more than 1.2 million engineers working in the field, it is the USA’s second-largest profession, and provides starting salaries to the tune of US $50,000 per annum to fresh engineers with just bachelors degrees. No wonder, each year, 100,000 new students enroll for engineering courses, in the USA.

Why Distance Learning Engineering?

Universities and colleges nowadays use the latest course delivery methods like the internet, streaming video, video conferencing, virtual labs, instructional design, interactive content, CD, video tapes, on-the-job training, etc, to create a rich experience, which comes close if not being better than a real engineering campus. Most universities also don’t differentiate between their regular engineering degrees and distance learning engineering degrees, making it a viable option for those who can’t accommodate a regular course into their schedule.

Universities, Colleges and Courses for Distance Learning Engineering

BS, MS, and PhD degrees in various branches of engineering are nowadays available under this delivery model. Also available are specialized certificate courses and 2-year associate degrees.

It is always better to go for an accredited course, the best accreditation being that of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). But finding and getting admitted to an ABET accredited distance learning engineering course will not be very easy, as, even in regular engineering education, only 15% of the Universities and Colleges have at least one undergraduate engineering course accredited by ABET.

Also, ABET accreditation is not the only criterion to look for. Many prestigious universities, colleges, and polytechnic institutes offer courses that are highly regarded by the industry and the academic world, but which are still not accredited by ABET.

One of the universities offering ABET accredited courses through distance education is University of North Dakota. UND has four ABET accredited BS degrees in engineering – chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical. The format of course delivery is online. But, generally speaking, ABET accredited courses tend to be hybrid courses with some element of on-campus study.

California National University for Advanced Studies offers a BS in Engineering with electives being computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, and quality assurance science.

Kennedy-Western University offers Bachelor degrees in computer science, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, and quality control.

Kansas State University offers an MS in chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical branches, with course delivery through internet, video, and CD. North Carolina State University offers an MS in chemical, civil, and mechanical engineering. The course delivery is over video. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Iowa State University both offer MS degrees in electrical and mechanical branches. While University of Illinois exclusively uses the internet for delivery, University of Iowa uses a combination of streaming video over the internet, CD, and video tape. University of Tennessee offers MS in civil engineering, for which the delivery is through the internet.

University of Illinois, Iowa State University, University of Tennessee, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute are some of the institutions offering specialized Graduate Certificate Courses through distance learning engineering, while North Carolina State University offers undergraduate level Certificate Courses through this mode.
